PSA -Public Service Announcement

Okay, I know I still have lots to catch up on, but this takes priority. I have to warn the public of this strange occurrence that has recently happened to Jadyn and could happen to thousands of girls across the world. Apparently, backs of earrings can get stuck inside of ear lobes! That's right. You heard me. Earrings can and do get stuck in the middle of ear lobes and can't get out unless surgically removed. It all happened like this. I noticed that Jadyn's ear looked infected while we were in Utah for a family reunion. Upon us returning to the homestead where I could actually take care of it and change out her earrings, I went to remove them and was shocked and amazed when I couldn't find the back of the earrings... IN BOTH EARS!! That's when I noticed that I could feel the backs inside of her earlobes, but could only see the tip of one of them. Jeff messed with the one for a while and finally got it out, but try as we may, could not get the other. Long story short, we spent many hours trying to help this wounded ear. The pediatrician tortured her for 30 minutes, the E.R. Dr wouldn't even try and sent her to the ENT specialist. The ENT specialist said that it was lodged in her earlobe and stuck in tissue so it had to be removed in the hospital during a surgery! HOLY COW! Is that the weirdest thing you ever heard? Apparently, they see this all the time. Everyone told us that until one stops growing, the skin is constantly changing and can grow over the earrings unless they are twisted every day to prevent this from happening. What? Isn't that crazy? They have even seen this problem with teenage boys/girls that have any kind of piercings. Huh! Really? Would have been nice to know BEFORE this happened! Why doesn't anyone tell us these things? She has had these earrings for almost 3 years without any problems. Would have been nice to know. Here she is in the hospital this morning. So, 3 Doctors, several hours and thousands of dollars later... lesson learned. BUT HEY, she did get this cute bear, a green Popsicle and some mint smelling gas that gave her a good nap. AND, they didn't have to cut her ear at all. He just used forceps to get the thing out. He said he had to pull it gently, kind of like delivering a baby. That's one man I KNOW has never delivered a baby. Consider yourself WARNED! Warn others! Funny thing is, I can hear my Dad's words in my head saying, "If God wanted you to have holes in your ears, he would have made you with some!" I have to admit though, give her some more years and I'm sure she'll end up with earrings again... when she can take care of them and twist them herself!

Poor little Jay! Tell her we are so glad everything went okay. I forgot about Dad saying that! How in the world could I have ever forgotten that with as many times as he said it!

Wow! That is an amazing and sad story. I am glad her surgery is over and she did well. You are right we should be told about this. I have never heard about it. Zoey is allergic to all sorts of metals so she can't wear earings as hard as she trys or different metals she tries. Glad all is well now. Hope you get to rest up a little from your trip and this new adventure.
